Microsoft Commercial Internet System

Situation:

Microsoft was developing the Microsoft Commercial Internet System, a suite of interoperating Internet services providing a “turnkey” solution for Internet Service Providers (ISPs) to provide Membership, Personalization, Content Replication, Internet News, Internet Mail, Address Book, and Internet Chat services to their end users.

Hindrance:

Deployment of MCIS required a large, complex network environment in order to support scalability and reliability for ISPs with potentially millions of end-users.

Action:

I performed feature and network integration testing, and deployed, maintained, and troubleshot an emulated data center and Internet network environment, enabling full-deployment integration testing by the full product team.

Results:

My efforts greatly contributed to shipping MCIS versions 1.0 and 2.0.

Competencies:

This experience shows my ability to deploy and manage a network environment, and to coordinate among various interdependent stakeholders.
